XR - Bundle is fractured in tail region. Skeleton is much smaller than the bundle (skull placed within modelled body, not head region). False head appears to have a radiodense coating which could be resin or gilding. Appears to be an area of soft-tissue or feathers extraneous to the bird, but is included in bundle wrappings (may be tail of another bird). CT - Thin layer (possibly a single layer) of wrappings round bird which appear radiodense (coating of tar, resin, natron?). Bundle is wrapped again to form a more uniform cylindrical shape with what appear to be rolls of bandaging on each side of neck for support. Bundle appears to have then been rewrapped with inclusion of denser material (possibly wax) laid intentionally in a row within the wrappings.

XR/CT - externally bundle is long, but area containing skeletal remains appears to be relatively plump. Tail is long (indicative of cf. Falco sp.) and the beak is protruding from the bandages. Legs are flexed up and claws are not visible (unusual position for a bird). Neck is displaced and residue in chest cavity. Consensus is that it is the skeleton of a falcon, but that it is position strangely within the mummy bundle leading to a slightly elongated appearance on films.

Radiographed in sections and digitally stitched afterwards. The density of the stone coffin obliterates the detail of the skeletal remains in the X-ray. The CT scan reveals the detail of the stone coffin with a mummy bundle lying within with the head at the widest part. Chunks of resin (visible by eye) are clear on the images, lying on top of the solidified layer. The mummy bundle touches the base at the head end, but is not lying flat at the foot end. At the tail end, there is a layer of fragmentary debris lying beneath the bundle. There is disruption to the linen bandages on the upper aspect ?attempt to unwrap/remove the mummy. Resin has been poured into the coffin on top of and around the bundle, adhering it to the walls. The resin appears similar in density to stone. The bird itself appears to have received a coating of a radiodense substance prior to wrapping and linen has been applied in distinct stages as is common on many animal mummies. The skull appears to have been created from a pad of linen, wrapped within the confines of the outer layer.

Complete conical-shaped mummy bundle containing fragmentary avian bones consistent in size with an ibis. All elements appear to lack integrity and are not articulated. There is a core of granular material and radiodense anomalies which contains the skeletal elements, many of which have fractured post mortem and are lying at the base. A modern metal conservation pin is visible at the widest point of the bundle. There is a radiodense coating (fractured) around the remains themselves possibly indicating a layer of a resinous substance holding the core together prior to wrapping. This layer appears to be thicker on the upper surface. There is a considerable air void within the bundle where the bones have settled over time. There is a section of articulated spine, but no skull is immediately obvious.

The inner layers of linen wrappings appear quite haphazard in formation, but the outer layers are smooth. No epiphyses are visible indicating that the bird was skeletally mature at the time of death.

Complete mummy bundle formed in the shape of a jackal with upright ears. The bundle appears to have been formed independently of the contents as they are all loosely placed within it, almost as though they have been poured into the cavity, resulting in air voids in the central area. Epiphyses are visible on some of the long bones indicating that the canid was juvenile at the time of death. No skull is present. A wooden rod has been inserted within the body of the bundle and another placed at right angles to form the false snout. A pad of linen has been positioned on top of the stick to create the height of the cranium. The wrappings around the body are relatively thin. The reeds visible on the outside of the bundle, are not obvious radiographically.
