A History of Animal Mummies

At present, almost 80% of animal mummies studied by the Ancient Egyptian Animal Bio Bank are without a find-spot reference i.e. we do not know where in Egypt they came from. This lack of knowledge is primarily due to the circumstances of their acquisition and donation to the museum in which they now reside. However, the history of animal mummies post-excavation until their study by the Ancient Egyptian Animal Bio Bank is a rich resource, which can help to find some of this missing information. This section will explore the history of some of the individuals responsible for acquiring animal mummies in museum collections and the objects, and collections, associated with them.
